Description
Voglibose Tablet is indicated in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is prescribed in combination with diet and exercise to enhance blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
How does Voglibose Tablet work?
- Voglibose is an oral antihyperglycemic agent. It is an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor. It inhibits the enzyme alpha-glucosidase in the small intestine. The enzyme breaks down complex carbs into simple sugars such as glucose.
- By inhibiting this enzyme, Voglibose retards the breakdown and absorption of carbohydrates, producing a progressive increase in blood glucose levels after meals. This prevents the peak rises in blood sugar that normally follow meals, which is especially useful in type 2 diabetic patients
Applications of Voglibose
- Voglibose is an orally effective α-d-glucosidase inhibitor that was introduced for the management of postprandial hyperglycemia in diabetic patients.
- It is used to control type 2 diabetes by preventing enzymes in the intestine from breaking down carbohydrates and delay the absorption of sugars.
- It helps to regulate blood sugar levels postprandially. Voglibose is sometimes taken in combination with other diabetes drugs in order to enhance overall glucose control.
