Tolvaptan Tablet
Tolvaptan is administered to treat hyponatremia (low sodium concentration) in heart failure patients, liver disease and endocrine disorder like Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone (SIADH). Tolvaptan is also administered to treat autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD).
Tolvaptan contains ‘tolvaptan’, which works by opposing the action of vasopressin and hence reducing the reabsorption of water, net free water excretion (aquaresis), and serum sodium. The decrease in free water is not followed by increased excretion of sodium or potassium ions; the increase in the concentration of serum sodium is merely because of the increase in the output of urine.
Benefits:
- Tolvaptan is employed to treat hyponatremia (low levels of sodium) in patients with liver disease, heart failure, and hormonal imbalances such as Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone.

- Tolvaptan works by blocking the effect of vasopressin, a hormone that is involved in the formation of cysts in ADPKD patients.
- Tolvaptan slows down the development of cysts in the kidneys and reduces the symptoms of the disease.Â
Uses:
